Each note of Indian currency bears the picture of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Every Indian note has information regarding the note in 15 languages ​​on one side and in Hindi and English on the other side.


The paper which is prepared for Indian note, cotton, rosemary, textile fiber etc. are used for it.

All other notes are issued by the Reserve Bank of India but the Government of India issues one rupee note.

All notes except the Re 1 note bear the signature of the Governor of the Reserve Bank. Each note bears a depiction of a site, animal, monument or symbol of India.

500 note was first issued in 1987 and 1000 Rs. The note was first issued in the year 2000. Both the notes were demonetised on 8 November 2016, after which new Rs 500 and Rs 2000 notes were issued.

A total of 17 languages ​​are present on the note. In these also Hindi and English language are prominently displayed. Apart from Hindi and English, the 15 other languages ​​present on the notes include Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.


Which symbol on which note?

The Rupee symbol 'R' was designed by Uday Kumar, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Design at IIT Guwahati.
